| The Service Learning Initiative at South Central College (SCC)
The South Central Service, Work & Learning Center assists in the coordination of Service Learning options for South Central College students and faculty. In addition to providing a point of entry for Service Learning inquiries at SCC, the Center also provides a regional database of service learning sites, resources on Service Learning and training and tools for Service Learning sites in the surrounding communities. The Service should drive the learning. It is not an add on. Service-learning projects emphasize both sets of outcomes-the service and the learning- and the design of the project results accordingly. Most prominently, projects that emphasize learning always include a strong reflective component where students utilize higher order thinking skills to make sense of and extend the formal learning from the service experience.
